Pfizer, the British pharmaceutical company that also makes Viagra and Levitra, announced today that it has received a successful clinical trial for its (vardenafil) impotence treatment, Levitra.
Pfizer’s Levitra (vardenafil 10mg) will be sold in conjunction with a treatment for erectile dysfunction, and is indicated in adult male patients for the treatment of impotence. The treatment, which is branded by Pfizer as Viagra, is marketed by Pfizer under the brand name Viagra and is currently in a phase 3 trial for vardenafil. A generic version of Levitra is expected to be available in the coming weeks and months.
Levitra, which is the result of a Phase 3 trial conducted by Pfizer at its research facility in San Jose, California, is indicated for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in adult men. The trial was led by Dr. Gans M. Walford of Pfizer, and included 22 male patients, all of whom experienced a significant increase in sexual activity and difficulty in achieving and maintaining an erection during treatment.
The study was designed to assess whether or not Levitra could be used safely to treat erectile dysfunction in adult men with impotence, based on preliminary data from the Pfizer study.
According to the Company’s (vardenafil 20mg) press release, “Levitra, which is the result of a Phase 3 trial conducted at Pfizer’s research facility in San Jose, California, is indicated in adult male patients as an effective treatment for erectile dysfunction based on a study of preliminary nature.” The Phase 3 study was designed to assess whether or not Levitra could be used safely to treat erectile dysfunction in adult men with impotence, based on preliminary data from the Pfizer study. The study was also designed to assess whether or not Levitra could be used safely to treat impotence in patients who suffer from impotence-related sexual side effects, such as decreased libido and erectile dysfunction, based on a review of clinical studies conducted on these subjects.
“Although there are no FDA-approved treatments for erectile dysfunction, there are other available and effective treatments that can help treat impotence in men,” the press release states. “The Levitra clinical study was a double-blind, placebo-controlled, parallel-group study of 22 patients, with varying degrees of impotence and age to evaluate whether Levitra could be used safely to treat impotence in adult males with erectile dysfunction based on a study of preliminary nature.”
The company anticipates selling Levitra in the future in the following years as well.
